Initial Appointment
Before Arriving for your first appointment you will want to complete the Intake Questionnaire(Download the form). Please fill out and send to me within 24 hours of your appointment booking. Please let me know if you have any concerns or difficulties.
You can expect, in your initial appointment, to speak about the concerns which have brought you to therapy, as well as what you have tried in the past to resolve the issue, and what you have found helpful (or not helpful). You will be given an opportunity to share any information you believe is important for your therapist to know, as well as to ask any questions/address any concerns you may have.
Not all therapists and clients are a good fit – for a variety of reasons. This appointment is also an opportunity to see if we will work well together – this is the most important factor for the therapeutic relationship we are going to develop. If you have any doubts, I will not be offended and can refer you to another professional if you should chose to not start as my client.
Together we will set out an initial plan of action to begin addressing the concerns identified. The number of therapy sessions will vary, depending on your need, and will range from a few sessions to a much longer process. The therapy plan will continually be assessed and modified throughout the therapy process – together.
It is important to realize that therapy is an exploration and discovery process, from which there is no guarantee of the outcome. Therapy may also produce confusing and mixed emotions, as it is a challenging process which requires examining parts of ourselves and lives that may be painful, uncomfortable, and confusing. Sometimes clients feel worse before feeling better in the therapy. Please remember that this is an experience which will be supported in therapy. It is important that if you have any questions or concerns to bring them to my attention.
